HUAWEI Smart Scale: How smart does a ‘smart scale’ need to be?

Anyone who still thinks that HUAWEI only produces cell phones and headphones should be told: Far from it. With the HUAWEI Smart scale, there should be a new smart body scale from HUAWEI with which you can measure your own body fat percentage, BMI and much more. How does it work and do you even need it?

You could of course now say “I already have a pair of scales, what is so special about them?”

First, let’s see what the HUAWEI Smart scale can determine. First and foremost, of course, the weight – and supposedly accurate to 50 grams! In addition to weight, the scales also measure heart rate, BMI, body fat percentage, muscle mass, metabolism, water percentage in the body and also the figure shape such as hourglass, pear, apple etc. can be determined. The device also has a special handle with four electrodes, which complement the four existing electrodes on the scales and thus form an eight-electrode. Incidentally, normal scales usually only have four electrodes! The scale itself is 32 x 32 cm, weighs around three kilos and transmits the evaluated data to the smartphone via Bluetooth or WLAN. The HUAWEI Health App then evaluates the results.

Visually, the Smart scale has been upgraded a lot. The surface consists of conductive ITO glass and a metal plate on which the HUAWEI logo has been placed.
Those who already liked the great color gradients on various cell phones will get their money’s worth with this scale. The color, which is somewhat reminiscent of the Crystal Breath of the Huawei P30 Pro, has been adapted to the color gradient trend (namely “Glass Fantasy”). Alternatively, there are also the colors black or white.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

According to our current knowledge, the functionality is quite simple. You stand on the scales, take the handle in your hand and get your weight displayed by means of an LED display on the scales. The display can show weight, fat percentage and heart rate at the same time – which is useful if you only want to take a quick measurement in between. If you only want to have approximate or, better said, the most necessary results from a scale, you can simply stand on the scale without additionally picking up the handle.

The gadget runs with Bluetooth 4.2 and / or WLAN and is currently only compatible with Android devices. The Smart scale can be charged with a Supercharge charger. When fully charged, the scale should run for up to 360 days if you stand on it once a day. The HUAWEI Band 4 Pro is recommended as a smart companion in combination with the scales, although the Watch GT / Watch GT2 could certainly also play an interesting role here. ATTENTION – People with pacemakers or other electronic medical implants are expressly prohibited from using the scales!
